Clean Eating Challenge Day 1

Clean Eating Challenge – Sample Day

THEClean eatingCHALLENGE

Okay, so yesterday was my day to record all the clean food that I consumed and to take pictures, so I could share my healthy experiences with all of you.  Wow, it was a busy day.  I do not know how food bloggers do it.  Without further preamble, here was my clean day…

Breakfast:

For breakfast, I typically eat steel-cut oatmeal (with dried fruit on top), but for the challenge I decided to go with a more protein and veggie oriented breakfast. A few years ago I was briefly on the South Beach diet and I loved the Spinach Quiche Cups.  They are very easy to make and the leftovers keep well in the fridge, so you’ll have breakfast for the next couple of days.

Clean Eating Week

Clean Eating Week Intro

As I mentioned in Friday’s post, starting today I’m joining three other bloggers for a “Clean Eating Week.”  For those of you visiting The Latchkey Mom for the first time, let me introduce myself.  I’m Allie Smith – wife, mother, writer and blogger.  My go-to topics for my blog are usually motherhood, autism, reading, road trips and pop culture obsessions.  I rarely write about health, diet or exercise – yet I frequently think about all three.  Continue reading Clean Eating Week

Things To Be Excited About – March 2014

It’s that time again – to share with you all the things I’m excited about!  Although my “Excited” posts are some of my favorite to write, I confess that my primary motivation for this particular blog is to get something up, because I’ve been super busy and haven’t had time for a Latchkey Mom blog.  My apologies!  I’m also including a giveaway with this post, to entice you to share with me what you’re excited about.  I have a couple books, a Latchkey Mom necklace and an American Express gift card to give to one lucky person who comments below.  I’ll announce the winner on Tuesday, after 5p.m.

My First Blog Tour – Starting on Monday, I’ll be participating in my first blog tour/crossover with some other bloggers about Clean Eating Week.  I’ve committed to eating clean for a week and blogging about it.  My post will be on Monday, followed by Allison from Go Dansker Mom, Amy from Hot Breakfast, and Holly from Desert Momma.  We’re going to share our individual clean eating plans, recipes, experiences and results.   Wish me luck, and be sure to check in with all of us next week.

I Dare Allie

I Dare Allie

I recently read a really fun memoir, Lu Ann Cahn’s I Dare Me, that chronicles the year during which she did something new, for the first time, every day.  That’s 365 new things! She did big things:  the Polar Bear Plunge; she ate a scorpion (no way Jose!) and enrolled in graduate school.  She also did little things, such as:  learn to say the alphabet backwards, organize the pantry and bake a cake from scratch.  The latter group may not sound like much, but if you’ve never done these things, than they aren’t little.   Why did she do the whole experience?  To reboot and recharge her life – and it worked.  I think it’s just so cool.  The book doesn’t cover all 365 days, but her website does, with videos.  Check it out. I had fun exploring.
