What I Find Interesting…Not So Much!

BlogHopButton[1]

Sounds really positive, doesn’t it? Let me explain.  This piece is the result of a writing prompt from “Finish the Sentence Friday.” I debated about it all week – this is my first time linking in with these bloggers and I didn’t want to make a bad first impression by going on about something I’m not interested in or risk offending someone whose interests differ from mine. I bounced a few ideas off of a friend, who quickly batted them down on the basis of potential offense to someone else. I told my husband that I couldn’t think of anything I wasn’t interested in that was blog-worthy and not offensive. He replied, “You have no interest in a lot things!”  Oh, really? Well, now I’m not interested in his opinion!

In the end, I decided that there may be some truth in his statement, because telling you about what I’m not interested in may help paint a picture of what I am interested in.

I have absolutely no interest in:

Driving a mini-van. Yes, I am the Road Warrior Momma of four, but something about minivans trigger insecurity in me that I’m no longer cool (and maybe never was?).

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. After years of disturbing anger, on behalf of my girl Jen Anniston, I’ve now reached a pleasant state of indifference. I could care less and honestly, they bore me to tears.

Camping or fishing. Never have, never will.

“Professional Wrestling. ” One of my sons is obsessed and it makes me insane when he talks to me about it.

Ditto for Sponge Bob and Ninjago.

Science Fiction (Star Wars/Han Solo being the exception), Fantasy, Vampires or Horror movies.

The Real Housewives of anywhere.

Watching NBA Basketball, unless the Boston Celtics are in the finals.

Facebook rants and fights.

Taking a cruise. This particular disinterest in new, brought on by recent events in the cruise industry.

People who say, “I hate to read.”

People who discriminate, bully or who are judgmental.

Doing crafts.

Being a room mom. Been there, done that, exhausting.

Letting the grass grow under my feel.

People who think they know it all.

What does interest me?

My husband.

My children.

Hearing the life stories of my friends (real life and my blogging world).

Family History.

American History.

Books! Especially Woman’s Fiction, Chick Lit, Health & Fitness, Memoirs and Biographies.

Exploring different treatments for autism and hearing success stories.

Mad Men and The Good Wife.

The curriculum at my children’s school.

Art galleries, presidential museums and natural wonders.

The writing process of authors I admire.

Presidential political campaigns.

Interior design and fashion.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

Learning, meeting new people and exploring new places.

What do you have no interest in? What do you find interesting?

This has been a Finish the Sentence Friday post. Today’s sentence was “I have absolutely no interest in…” and was brought to you by Kristin at Finding Nimee: Stephanie at Mommy For Real; Kate at Can I Get Another Bottle of Whine?; and Janine at Confessions of a Mommyaholic.

  1. I love your lists and am so happy you came to link up with us! Also I’m terrified of cruises because um, I don’t know. I’ve ALWAYS been terrified of them. I think it’s the isolation and the fact that my son can’t swim, and would think it would be OHSOFUN to jump into those waves, way way way below. Without notice, maybe. I’m already terrified of the beach vacations that we all love so much.

Had to chuckle at the room mom one – been there too and not what I expected. Never seen the real housewives either. I’m enough of one for me, for all the drama, ever. 😉

    1. Kristi, I have the SAME fear of my son jumping over board. He LOVES water. If he sees a fountain, he’s in it. He’s jumped fences to swim in peoples pols. The is no way in h*** I’d get on a ship with him.

    1. I grew up in New England, so I’ve always loved to learn about the pilgrims and the Revolutionary War period. Then, when I moved to the south – the Civil War peaked my interest. I also like twentieth century history – so much to learn!

  2. Thank you for the “doing crafts.” Everyone I know loves doing crafts with their kids. One pal devised theme days throughout the summer. So impressive. So not me. However others think it is. I got two calls in the space of a week when my two were little. “Kelly could you please consider doing daycare for my child when school starts up again.” Had to say no. Why? That need for crafts. I’d have to come up with homemade playdough, projects that involved glue, learn fun things to do with sequins … No thanks. I’m have absolutely no interest in devising pleasant time passing crafts …

  3. I am with ya on your dislikes 🙂

Mini-van is taken for granted that she is prepared to run errands and shuffle kids here and there for practise…lol

    not a basketball fan either!

    TGIF 🙂

  4. I totally am with you on not being a mini-van mom and so much more here. Love that you did join us this week and totally did us proud here. Hope you will indeed join us again in weeks to come 🙂

  5. I am so with you on the camping and crafts in particular. But here’s the thing- I really WISH I was interested in both of them! I could try a little harder, but I just don’t think it’s ever going to happen… 😉
So happy to have you link up with FTSF for the first time- welcome!

    1. Thank you Stephanie. Sometime I do wish I was into camping. The kids and dad get so excited when they’re planning a camping trip and I confess to briefly felling left out – but once everyone’s gone and it’s quiet, I feel better about my disinterest:)!.

  6. Crafts suck! I am not good at them, nor do I want to make anything.

And I refuse to drive a mini van. I do like the space, but I like my small cars.

    1. Thank you. Aside form the money, mess and frustration of doing crafts – what do you do with the finished project? I miss my small, pre-kids, sporty red car. When the last one graduates, I’m going car shopping!

  7. this week’s sentence fragment has turned out to be surprisingly challenging! I am only just now getting out to read the other posts and there appears to be a theme developing.
    enjoyed your list approach.

  8. Who the hell doesn’t like to read?! Good thing I’m not the judgmental type or I wouldn’t like them 😉

Many of the things on both your lists can be found on mine too. I like how you handled that prompt and welcome to the link-up!

    1. Busted. Oops, I didn’t realize how judgmental I sounded. AND – yesterday in “real” life, another judgy flaw was pointed out to me(:. I better work on putting my money where my mouth is.

Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it.

  9. Love it! Rage Against the Minivan, Mama!
And good to read about the Room Mom thing – my days of being asked to do that aren’t here yet so I will have to keep this in mind.

  10. That’s quite a list! Both of them! Nothing wrong with either one. Sometimes we gotta fake it through the first one, but that’s what the second one is for! 🙂 (Visiting from FTSF!)

  11. I feel the same about the Pitts. And although I love to travel, Las Vegas does not interest me. I’ve narrowly escaped several business trips to Vegas, the last one when I was 6 months pregnant. I’m sure the city is fine but can’t think of any place less appealing to me than the strip. I’m completely okay with watching Bradley Cooper visit, however.
