Shy Town Girls, Ivy

By Katie Leimkuehler

 shy-town-girls-ivy1[1]

This is the second book in the Shy Town series and it focuses on Ivy.  Ivy is a twenty-something girl-about-town, who is a rising star in the advertising industry.  She lives with her best friend Ella, and another girl, Bobbie.  A fourth girl, Meryl, rounds out their gang.  Their world is based in Chicago and filled with work drama, fashion dilemmas and romantic entanglements.   Ivy seems to find trouble wherever she turns.  Despite knowing she shouldn’t mix work with pleasure, Ivy starts dating one of her clients.  Matters get more complicated when she develops feelings for her best friend’s brother, Shane.  Add some daddy issues to the mix, and the angst of being a quarter century old, and you’ve got yourself a story.  Continue Reading at Chick Lit Plus.

Who’s Your Hero?

“Being a hero is about the shortest-lived profession on earth.” – Will Rogers

“We are all the hero of our own story.” – Mary McCarthy, author.

Who is your hero?  It sounds like a simple question, but for me it’s not.   The dictionary defines a hero as, “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for brave deeds and noble qualities.”  I find the definition, although accurate, hard l to live up to.   I think we can all agree that our military is full of heroes, but we also have personal heroes.  What makes someone a hero to each of us is subjective and a one-size-fits-all definition doesn’t apply.  Over the years I’ve considered many people I’ve admired to be my hero, but they never seem to maintain their elite status in my eyes (like the Rogers quote above).  My own values and experiences have changed the qualities I consider necessary to have such a label.   For instance, as a child my two heroes were Chrissy Everett and Farrah Fawcett.  Chris I can explain (until years later when a family member had a rude experience with the tennis player), Farrah not so much.  Today most of my heroes usually work in the classroom or in autism centers.  I also experience a bit of hero worship towards some of my favorite authors.   Continue reading Who’s Your Hero?

Guest Post: Another Lunch With Jackie

014

She’s back!  This week was my friend Jackie’s birthday and I treated her to lunch at my home (although I confess, it was take out).  The event doubled as another Jackie how-to-in-the kitchen.  She made a traditional German Christmas Cocktail (Jackie’s parents are Germany born and bred), called Gluehwein, to enjoy for the holidays.  Although it’s a little crazy around the holidays, I’m not freaking out as I have in years past.  Everything always gets done, somehow, some way.  And if you drink a little of Jackie’s Gluehwein, you’ll do it all with a smile!  But Jackie warns that if you drink too much – Es kann gerfaerlich sein!
