CLP: The Grief of Glee

The Grief of Glee

Watching Glee has always put me in a good.  How can you not smile at the joy the cast radiates when they’re belting out a tune?   There’s nothing gleeful about grief, however.  Grief is the price you pay for love, and we all loved Finn – and by extension the actor who played him, Cory Monteith.  The actor’s death hit me surprisingly hard.  I should probably note that my little brother passed away in May.  At the time I heard the news about Monteith, I wasn’t even close to recovering from my own loss.  I’m sure this contributed to my investment in this episode.

I watched “The Quarterback” episode for the first time alone, because I was certain that I’d be emotional.   I also wanted to preview it, before deciding whether or not to let my kids (ages 12and 9) watch.   Continue reading at Chick Lit Plus…

The Good Wife is Now The Great Wife!

The Great Wife

The Good Wife

I am so enraptured with the TV show, The Good Wife, that I impatiently await each week’s new episode.  In fact, for the first time since I figured out how to work my DVR, I actually watch a show LIVE.  Can you believe that?  Live.  I also start watching fifteen minutes into the program, so I can queue up time and be able to speed through the commercials.  The show is so intense that I can’t handle waiting through commercials for the next scene.

Last Sundays’ episode was like the greatest tennis game ever, with each legal team lobbing “balls” back and forth, and I swear my neck was turning as if I was really watching a match.  All this, after the explosive scene between Will and Alicia!  OMG – no wonder their affair was mostly shown in teasing snippet flashbacks, because there’s no way we could have handled these two in the bedroom.

Let’s start at the beginning of the episode, appropriately name “Hitting the Fan,” when Diane told Will about Alicia’s plan to leave Lockhart Gardner with Cary and take some big clients with her.  Poor Will, the shock and disbelief he displayed made him look so vulnerable.  Will, the man who’s screwed countless people over, got a little taste of his own medicine from the woman he loves (and we all know he does, even if he doesn’t realize it).  I didn’t like it.  Not one bit.  Continue reading The Good Wife is Now The Great Wife!

Returning Fall Favorites 2013

At the beginning of every new television season, there’s always plenty of buzz and excitement for the new shows, and sometimes we forget to pay tribute to our old faithfuls.  In my opinion, we live in the second golden age of television, because there are just so many good shows.  After a long summer hiatus, we often forget what our friends were up to when we last saw them.  Don’t fret, I’ve done the homework on a handful of favorites.

Blue Bloods – September 26th.  Only people who like to stay home on Friday nights love this show, which I do – I’ll own it!  Plus I love Donnie Wahlberg.  When we left the Ryans last year, they were still reeling from the murder of Jamie’s partner.  Jamie’s new partner is a rookie fresh out of the academy, and a woman.  Big brother Danny finally has a new partner, also a woman, so the Ryan brothers are both challenged by their new work environments.  They’re also none too pleased with their sister Erin, who’s had to let a cop killer go due to Danny’s lack of evidence.  Daddy Frank (the ageless Tom Selleck) has problems of his own, dealing with the aftermath of the events at the Bitterman Projects.

Castle – September 23rd.  Last season Beckett looked to be heading to Washington DC for a big new job, when Castle surprisingly popped the question!  Everyone thought that these two getting together would be the kiss of death, ala Moonlighting, but they were wrong.   However, marriage is a whole other ballgame.  Will she say yes?  Will she stay?  Will she go?  The season opens months after the proposal, so we should have our answers.

Glee – September 26th.  Sadly, this is probably the season’s most anticipated return, primarily due to curiosity about how the show handles the loss of Finn. Continue…

New Fall Shows Are Almost Here

My first entertainment piece posted on Chick Lit Plus today.  You can read the beginning of the article here and then link over, to read the rest.

I have a confession to make.  I’m a TV junkie.  I know it’s not cool to admit this in literary circles, especially if you’re a lover of writing and books.  The arrival of fall signals that the new television season is upon us (most premiers are airing the week of September 23rd, after the Emmys).  In this year’s new crop of shows, there are many choices to ponder!  Here’s the scoop based on my recon, and I must say, I’m very grateful for my DVR.

773x557[1]Betrayal on ABC Sundays, 10p.m. EST.  The trailer for this one is hot and it looks like a perfect companion to its lead-in, Revenge.  The show is about an unhappily married woman who starts an affair with a man after a “chance” encounter at a party.  They initially try to resist, but the attraction proves to be too much.  The catch?  Turns out the woman’s lovah is none-other than the defense attorney for the criminal her husband is prosecuting in a high profile murder trial.  Uh-oh.  I think this sounds awesome, but I’m a bit nervous because some critics don’t seem as excited as I am.

Read about more of the new fall shows at CLP , then come back here and tell me what you think.  Or you can comment on CLP.  I’d love to hear about what you’re planning to check out when the new season begins.  Did I miss any new shows you’re excited to see?
