Guest Post at Undiagnosed, But Okay

The lovely Kerri Ames (and fellow Cape Codder) invited me to write a post for her My Challenge series that she features on her blog, Undiagnosed But Okay.  I’m so excited, as this is my first guest post at a personal blog!  It’s an honor to be approached by a writer you admire.  So if you want to know what my challenge is (hint below), hop on over to Kerri’s blog, to read my essay.  See you there!

September Happenings

It’s been a while since I wrote a “catch-up” post about what I’m doing, reading and watching.  This post is also a partial link-up with Mama Kat’s World’s Greatest Writing Workshop.    I didn’t have a whole lot to write about on the new fall television line-up, so I decided to combine the two.  If you’re visiting from Mama Kat, please forgive me (but I hope you stick around, so I can learn more about you).

Writing prompt:  Share the fall lineup you’re looking forward to.

Last year, I wrote a post all about the new fall television shows that was featured at Chick Lit Plus.  I did some research for that article and thought I had the winners and losers figured out.  I was wrong, so I’ve saved myself the trouble (and time) this year.  I’m going to wait a few weeks before watching anything new – to see what the critics and my fellow bloggers (who are usually attuned to the most buzz-worthy shows) like.  I’ve also been bruised one too many times by shows that I love getting axed way too soon.  With just a cursory glance at Entertainment Weekly’s site, my only interest at this point is Bad Judge (I love Kate Walsh) and Madame Secretary (love political dramas).  We shall see.  I am, however, very excited for my returning favorites!!!!  In no particular order; Revenge, The Good Wife, The Goldbergs, Nashville, Blue Bloods and ParenthoodContinue reading September Happenings

Guest Post: Passings & Crossings

This summer, my friend Julie lost her husband, Mike.   Julie is the publisher of My Forsyth magazine, where I’m a contributing writer.  Julie is  generous and kind, and from all the tributes I’ve read, so was her husband Mike.  Grief is complicated and personal and I hope and pray my friend will soon find some peace.  In this month’s issue of My Forsyth, Julie honored her husband by featuring an essay he wrote a few years ago, after losing a friend.   I was deeply touched by the article.  In the wake of Mike’s passing, his words are haunting – and beautiful.  With Julie’s blessing, I’ve featured his essay here at the LKM to honor him.  I hope you’ll read it.

Passings & Crossings

This month marks the anniversary of the passing of fine man who I am privileged to have had as a friend, even for a short time.  Thinking of him caused a gallery of other faces to appear and linger a while in my thoughts – family, friends, and loved ones who enriched my life for all too short a time before crossing over to what lies beyond. Dreams of Being Mary Richards

When I was a kid,the-mary-tyler-moore-show-4-700x540[1] I loved the Mary Tyler Moore Show.    I was too young to watch it when it aired during prime time, so I got my fix in syndication.  I had such a girl crush on Mary Richards, who was played by the spectacular Mary Tyler Moore.  I also really dug her clothes.  I’ve always believed that I was a 1970’s Boho chic (and this was recently confirmed by a quiz on Play Buzz).  I coveted both her apartments, but over the years I’ve gone back and forth on which Mary-apartment combo I loved best.  Long-haired-brunette-studio-apartment-in-a-house Mary, or the reddish-bobbed-haircut-high-rise-apartment Mary?  I thought it was so cool that she worked in a newsroom.  I adored the father-daughter relationship she had with Mr. Grant – um, that was until I grew up and realized that there was some serious sexual chemistry going on between them.  Personally, I don’t see it, but hey, most people are baffled by my attraction to Kid Rock.  To each his (or her) own.
