Things To Be Excited About – March 2014

It’s that time again – to share with you all the things I’m excited about!  Although my “Excited” posts are some of my favorite to write, I confess that my primary motivation for this particular blog is to get something up, because I’ve been super busy and haven’t had time for a Latchkey Mom blog.  My apologies!  I’m also including a giveaway with this post, to entice you to share with me what you’re excited about.  I have a couple books, a Latchkey Mom necklace and an American Express gift card to give to one lucky person who comments below.  I’ll announce the winner on Tuesday, after 5p.m.

My First Blog Tour – Starting on Monday, I’ll be participating in my first blog tour/crossover with some other bloggers about Clean Eating Week.  I’ve committed to eating clean for a week and blogging about it.  My post will be on Monday, followed by Allison from Go Dansker Mom, Amy from Hot Breakfast, and Holly from Desert Momma.  We’re going to share our individual clean eating plans, recipes, experiences and results.   Wish me luck, and be sure to check in with all of us next week.

A Cheat Blog Post

What’s really in your bag?

After a busy weekend, and a few days spent “self-promoting” some recent blogs (so sorry) and trying to meet some rapidly approaching deadlines, I haven’t had time to get any blogs posted.  This morning I read a blog that I thought was fun and I’m totally “stealing” it from Stacey Loscalzo, who credits the idea to the blog A Cup of Joe (featuring illustrations of bag items by Emily McDowell).  All three blog are cool – so check them out.  So without further lazy ado…  Continue reading A Cheat Blog Post

Writing News

I didn’t intend to time it this way, but this past weekend I had blogs published at the Huffington Post and Scary Mommy.  They’re original pieces, so you can’t read them here, but I’ve provided links below.

A few weeks ago, I had an incident with Barrett in a California Pizza Kitchen, while on our February mini-road trip.   I have petty thick skin when it comes to Bear and our escapade at CPK wasn’t my first time at this particular rodeo, but two things made it  unique for me.   The first was the way the restaurant manger handled our situation that night.  The second was how similar the event was to an article I’d read at the Huffington Post a few weeks ago, titled To the Woman and Child Who Sat at Table 9.  I decided to write about it and submit our story.  Eleven months after my first try, I finally got a piece posted at the Huffington Post.  Yay!  Overall, the response has been positive, but as of yesterday, I received my first (published) negative response to my writing – so I’ve arrived!  Surprisingly, I had a good reaction –  I just laughed at the snide comment.  Different strokes…

I’ve also written an Atlanta Travel Guide for the website, Scary Mommy.  The guides at Scary Mommy focus on things to do with your kids.  It was hard to limit it to ten places (as I was asked to do), so I emailed my girls for input.  Thank you for all the feedback.  You can read the list at Scary Mommy.

I also posted my for blog at the Family Legacy Center (which was featured here last week).  I happy to announce I’ve been asked back, and will be featured there monthly – writing about the topic of legacy, which is very important to me.

Thanks for all the support and encouragement!  I’m grateful to ALL of you!

Legacy Guest Post

Yesterday, my guest post at the Family Legacy Center went live on their website.  I’m re-posting the piece here, for those of you who don’t do Facebook – and to encourage interaction from my readers about what legacy means to you.  I was overwhelmed by all the positive support on Facebook yesterday!  Thank you.  I assume most people were reluctant to comment on the Family Legacy Center’s website – I hope you all feel comfortable to comment below.   I know the FLC would value your input.

You meet people in the strangest places.  Not in my wildest dreams (and I dream wild, believe me) would I have imagined that giving a eulogy would lead to a writing gig.  But, here I am!  I was contacted by the founder of the Family Legacy Center, who heard me deliver a eulogy and started following my blog.  After reading my posts for a while, she said that my blog could end up being a part of my legacy.  This got me to wondering about what determines our legacy.  My blog is all about my family and me, and will leave few questions about who I am, which might be good – or it might be bad.  It’s all in the interpretation.  My own experience has taught me that what you don’t know about a person can be just as important to legacy as what you do know.  Continue reading Legacy Guest Post
